Rotary ECT is the artistic moniker of Christopher Reid Martin, an experimental audiovisual artist
and composer whose work merges sound, light, and spatial perception. The project centers on
site-responsive compositions built from drone, noise, electroacoustic materials, and
environmental recordings, often paired with generative visual systems. The name reflects the
project’s conceptual core: cyclical motion, induction, mechanical rotation, and the charged flow
of electrical currents.
In performance, Rotary ECT employs multi-channel sound diffusion, custom Max/MSP and
RNBO systems, and projected visual environments that transform architectural spaces into
perceptual fields. The project has been presented at events such as Touch.40, MIRA Off-Site,
Coaxial Arts Foundation, and Desert Daze, extending an evolving practice grounded in
experimental electronic and audiovisual work.
Christopher Reid Martin is a Mexican American multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona,
Spain, by way of Los Angeles. Originally from Orange County, he began recording under the
name Shelter Death in 2004, releasing CDRs and tapes on labels including Via Injection,
Irrational Tenttent, and A.C.T.I.O.N. His work spans immersive self-generating audiovisual
installations, experimental electronic composition, and performances that integrate acoustic and
electronic instrumentation. He has exhibited and performed at Desert Daze, Touch Records’
40th Anniversary, and Transdisciplina, and has collaborated with artists such as Bailouts,
CGRSM, Id Meridian, and Gate with Michael Morley. A former board member of Coaxial Arts in
Los Angeles, he works with Cycling ’74 on Max and RNBO and is the cofounder and curator of
Cathode Cinema.
